At Bona, we rely on independent programs to verify our product ingredients and performance — so you can feel confident in every clean.
To protect, guide and build trust with our customers and consumers, we invest in certifications focusing on various sustainability aspects. Bona’s products hold certifications from Safer Choice, Greenguard, and the USDA (Certified Biobased Product label). We are also pleased to partner with the How2Recycle organization.
Safer Choice Certification
Bona has received Safer Choice certification from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for several products that are sold in the North American, Asian Pacific, and European markets. Bona has also been awarded “Safer Choice Partner of the Year” from 2021-2024 and made Safer Choice part of its product standards to help ensure every new innovation meets EPA guidelines.
Products that carry the Safer Choice label have been carefully evaluated by EPA scientists to ensure they contain ingredients that are safer for both human and environmental health. A product that contains safer ingredients lowers the risk to children and adults from hazards like cancer, neurotoxic and developmental effects, which can affect growth and learning, allergic reactions, and many other potential harms. These same products are better for indoor air and have safer ingredients for families, pets, communities, and the environment. Safer Choice certified products are less toxic to fish and other aquatic life and they break down more quickly through natural processes, so they are less likely to become part of the food chain or damage the ecosystem. Products certified under GREENGUARD are tested for thousands of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and screened to help reduce indoor air pollution and the risk of chemical exposure.
When you see the GREENGUARD Certified mark on a Bona product, it means it has been independently tested and verified to meet UL’s rigorous standards for low chemical emissions. So, you can feel confident using Bona products in your home.

USDA Certified Biobased Product
The USDA Certified Biobased Product label indicates that a product’s biobased content has been independently verified through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s BioPreferred® Program. Biobased products are made, in whole or in part, from renewable biological resources such as plants and other agricultural, marine, or forestry materials. The label displays the specific percentage of certified biobased content, helping consumers identify products that use renewable ingredients.
When you see the USDA Certified Biobased Product mark on a Bona cleaner, it means the product meets the program’s standards for biobased content. We are continually working to expand the use of renewable, biobased materials across our product portfolio.

How2Recycle Partnership
Bona is pleased to partner with the How2Recycle organization. Each of our packages contain the How2Recycle information to help guide consumers with best practices in recycling our product's packaging.
How2Recycle is a standardized labeling system that clearly communicates recycling instructions to the public. It involves a coalition of forward-thinking brands who want their packaging to be recycled and are empowering consumers through smart packaging labels.
