Clean bathrooms start with Bona
Simply put, having a clean bathroom is essential to good health. Good health aside, we all know that the bathroom can quickly become an unpleasant place if it is not properly kept up. Additionally, it can be an unintended home to unwanted germs and bacteria. Cleaning the bathroom regularly also makes bathroom deep cleaning easier.
A clean bathroom doesn’t just look better—it smells better, too. Since we spend a surprising amount of time in the bathroom each day, maintaining a fresh, inviting environment is just as important as removing visible dirt and grime.

How to clean the bathroom
Cleaning a bathroom covers a wide range of surfaces. Good thing Bona’s all purpose cleaner is made for bathroom, glass and wood surfaces. Bona microfiber cleaning cloths deliver effective weaves for bathroom surfaces, wood surfaces and for glass or polished surfaces. Each cloth (in a package of four) has a weave that is specifically designed to help break down dirt and grime and pick up particles.
In keeping with true Bona form, cleaning your bathroom often is one of the most effective ways to keep it smelling great. Wipe up excess water, toothpaste splatter, stray hairs, and other daily messes before they have a chance to build up. Reducing moisture is key, as damp environments are prime breeding grounds for mildew and unpleasant odors.

How to deep clean the bathroom
-
Bathtub and Shower:
When cleaning the bathroom (or deep cleaning), have your bathroom cleaning checklist handy so that you’re sure to properly clean each area and fixture.
- The best way to clean the bathtub and shower: Spray shower walls, tile and shower glass with Bona All-Purpose Cleaner. Be particularly attentive to corners, since they tend to be an area where bacteria collects.
- For deep cleaning the tub and shower, you can use our same great All-Purpose Cleaner. We simply recommend that you let it rest for a few more minutes after spraying before you scrub with your Bona bathroom cleaning cloth, then rinse and wipe down. Wiping up excess water after cleaning is important, as standing moisture can quickly lead to mildew and unwanted odors.
-
Surfaces and sink:
Spray surfaces with Bona All-Purpose Cleaner and wipe with your Bona Microfiber Cleaning Cloth for bathroom surfaces. Spend extra time cleaning around the faucet and faucet base. Small items left on counters can collect dust and bacteria, so clear surfaces before wiping them down for a more effective clean. -
Bathroom Cabinets and Under the Sink:
For cleaning bathroom cabinets, the best cabinet cleaner is Bona All-Purpose Cleaner. For best results, use the Bona Microfiber Cleaning cloth for bathroom surfaces (or wood surfaces if it applies). - For deep cleaning bathroom cabinets, roughly every 6-8 weeks, clean out your cabinets, vacuum, spray and wipe them clean. If you have wood cabinets, do not allow cleaner or liquid to sit on the surface, as it can damage your finish or wood. Simply use your cleaning cloth to work detailed areas such as moldings or trim.
- Pay special attention to the area under the sink. This often-overlooked space can become damp and musty, especially in cabinets that hide plumbing. Remove everything, discard old sponges or cloths, vacuum thoroughly, and check for any gaps or cracks that could invite pests.
- Bona cleaners infused with natural scents such as lemon, mint, or cedar can help neutralize odors—an added benefit when maintaining enclosed spaces like cabinets.
-
Mirrors:
Again – use Bona All-Purpose Cleaner. Wipe down with your Bona microfiber cleaning cloth for glass surfaces. -
Toilet:
You can even use your favorite Bona All-Purpose Cleaner to clean your toilet bowl and the toilet exterior. Be sure to clean all areas of the toilet. - For deep cleaning, remember to remove the lid and really get behind the toilet and along the sides. Bathroom trash can be a major source of unpleasant smells. If you notice odors, don’t wait until the bin is full—take it out. At least once a month, spray and wipe down the trash can itself. For extra freshness, add a drop of essential oil such as lemon, lavender, rosemary, or mint to the trash bag or bin.
Vents and Ventilation: Help keep your bathroom air clean by cleaning your vents regularly and as needed. Always use your bathroom fan during showers and baths, and clean the fan filter every 2–3 months. If your bathroom doesn’t have a fan, open a window when possible to improve airflow.
