Prepping your floors is as easy as 1-2-3
PREPPING YOUR FLOOR SURFACE:
Before you’re ready to polish your hardwood floor, the room must be properly prepared for hassle-free experience.
- Remove all furniture and belongings in the room. Clear the area. Be cautious when moving large objects and furniture. If possible, use furniture pads to help protect the floor from accidental scratches and gouges.
- Give the floors a good clean. Dust your floors first and then mop your floors with Bona Floor Cleaners to ensure an extra squeaky clean surface. Read our Best Bona Floor Cleaners article to ensure you have right product for the job.
- Make sure you have all the right tools. Polishes can be applied with the Bona Microfiber Cleaning Pad or a high-density foam roller. Check the polish instructions to make sure you have all that you need to finish the job.
Note: Bona recommends using polish every 2-6 months for homes with higher foot traffic, and 6-12 months for homes with lower foot traffic. We do not recommend using polish on newly finished or newly installed floors.

Helpful Application Tips
- Be sure to test an inconspicuous area on your floor before the full application. We recommend using a liberal/heavy pour for this test and allowing to wait 24 hours for the final result.
- It’s very important to measure your floor (length x width) and confirm the coverage rate of the Floor Polish bottle you have. One bottle of 24oz. only covers 350 sq. ft.; One bottle of 32oz. only covers 500 sq. ft.; One bottle of 36oz. only covers 550 sq. ft.
- After your floor prep work is completed, gently rock the polish back and forth for 30 seconds before applying the product onto the floor. Please do not shake before use, but the gentle rocking action will ensure the product is properly mixed and ready-to-go!
- Dampen the Microfiber Cleaning Pad with polish prior to your first spread to help provide an initial glide on the floor. Start in a small manageable area and liberally/heavily pour the polish from the bottle directly onto the floor in an "S" shaped pattern. Repeat on the remaining areas of your floor that require polish. The Microfiber Cleaning Pad you use for floor polishing should be dedicated to floor polishing. We do not recommend using this same pad to clean your floors.
What Bona fans are saying

★★★★★ It was a remarkable improvement!
When we moved into our home we noticed the flooring was dull, almost as if the varnish had worn away. We had had the exact flooring in our previous home and it never looked this bad. I recently cleaned the entire floor and out of desperation decided to order this product to try and restore its' beauty. I was more than pleasantly surprised. I've been downright elated since applying 2 coats of this polish. It was a remarkable improvement! In the photo the foreground is not yet polished, toward the back the floor had one coat of polish applied. The difference was more stunning in person.

★★★★★ I am blown away at how great our hand-scraped floors look.
''I accidentally purchased this while looking for a BONA cleaner refill. But, after steaming/cleaning with the BONA hardwood floor cleaner, I applied the BONA polish. Dry time is important (at least 1 hr). 24 hours later, I'm blown away at how great our hand-scraped floors look. Even with the deep grain and distress, they look better than when first installed!''
