Wood floors designed with the well-being of homes and craftsmen in mind

Harnessing our innovative spirit, Bona has been a leading force in developing advanced products and systems for wood floor contractors. As pioneers of waterborne wood floor lacquers and silane-based wood floor adhesives, we focus on solutions designed to reduce exposure to certain chemicals commonly associated with traditional flooring products. Our dust containment systems are engineered to limit airborne dust during sanding, helping to keep workspaces cleaner and more controlled throughout the renovation process.

That commitment is reinforced through stringent testing procedures applied across our products and systems to support safety, performance, and consistent quality—without compromising the results professionals expect from Bona. In addition, Bona continues to make material improvements across its portfolio, including packaging produced with more than 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic for Bona lacquer jugs and bottles.

  • Waterborne and Silane-Based Technologies: Designed to help lower exposure to certain chemicals compared with traditional solvent-based alternatives(source).
  • Integrated Dust Containment Systems: Built to minimize airborne dust during sanding operations.

  • Stringent Product Testing: Supporting consistent quality, durability, and performance.
  • Bona's innovative packaging: All Bona lacquer jugs and bottles are made with more than 50% PCR plastic.

Our approach to responsible product development drives our innovation

Since 1919, Bona has believed that quality workmanship and thoughtful product design go hand in hand. That belief has guided the development of an innovative range of products created to meet the needs of flooring professionals through performance, reliability, and careful material selection.

In the 1970s, we pioneered the shift from solvent-based to waterborne coatings. Today, we continue to advance product innovation by developing lacquers such as Bona Traffic GO, formulated to phase out PFAS and isocyanates. Our focus remains on delivering solutions that support professional application, product performance, and long-term use—without compromising the standards Bona is known for.

Emicode EC1 Plus

Products carrying the EMICODE® EC1 PLUS label meet stringent third-party requirements for very low emissions, demonstrating compliance with recognised classification standards.

Afnor

Afnor

This French regulation defines criteria for indoor air emissions from construction and installation products. Products rated A+ meet the highest classification level within this system, indicating very low emissions according to the label’s defined thresholds.

The label provides clear and visible information about volatile emissions once a product is installed in an enclosed space. It classifies products using an emissions scale (A+, A, B, C) based on measured VOC (volatile organic compound) levels in indoor air, in accordance with the ISO 16000 standard. Emissions are assessed 28 days after the product has been installed, applied, or incorporated into a room.

DIBt

DIBt

Products approved by Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) comply with German regulatory requirements for emissions testing and evaluation, based on defined criteria for construction products intended for indoor use.

FEP Parquet Refinishable Program

FEP Parquet Refinishable Program

The FEP Parquet Refinishable Program is a certification program designed to identify parquet products with wear/top layers thick enough to be refinished, along with products to aid floor owners in the decision making process.

The aim is to promote parquet which is at least twice resandable and thus putting forward the inherent advantage of parquet compared to other floorings due to it’s durability that can be extended due to refinishing.

Bona is proud to be included for both our Recoat/Silver and Refinish/Gold floor treatment programs which serve to certify the parquet.
