    Information

1K waterborne primer produces a rich, amber wood colour.

Bona Amber gives wood a similar look to what solvent-based lacquers do, but without the associated risks. It is highly suitable for floors with underfloor heating and/or moving floors, such as end grain or plank floors. The primer is recommended for use on oak and darker types of wood, including tropical species.

  • Instructions

Follow these recommendations to achieve the best application results for Bona Amber.

    TDS Application Notes

    1. Shake the container well before use and insert the supplied filter. Before use Bona Amber must be filtered through a fine strainer such as Bona article number AT31465120 or similar, so as to minimise the potential for undispersed pigment/particles being applied to the floor. Pour the finish into a clean dry container. 2. Apply Bona Amber evenly, finishing with the grain, using a Bona Roller or Swivel Head Applicator at approx. 8-10 m²/L and avoid accumulations of product. 3. Allow to dry, approx. 1 - 2 hours. 4. When dry, Bona Amber may be abraded to reduce grain raise using the Bona Scrad system or a sanding screen (use the finest grit which will achieve the desired result, 120-150 grit). Alternatively, apply one coat of lacquer before abrading to reduce grain raise. A lacquer coat may be applied with no abrasion required providing this is done within 24 hours after the application of Bona Amber . 5. Remove dust and complete the treatment with the topcoat of choice.

    TDS Important

Bona Amber should never be used as the final treatment for wood floors.

    TDS Main USP

    WATERBORNE PRIMER

    TDS Preparation

Ensure the floor is acclimatised to its end-use environment. The surface must be sanded back to bare wood, dry and free from sanding dust, oil, wax and other contamination. Sanding with a 120 grit abrasive using a Bona Quattro Disc, or similar equipment is recommended for the final sanding of the wood. Allow the product to reach room temperature. Optimal application conditions are between 18-25°C and 30-60% relative humidity. High temperatures and low humidity shorten, low temperatures and high humidity lengthen drying time. In dry and/or warm conditions max 4% Bona Extender may be added to prolong the open time and reduce the risk of overlapping and discolouration. Minimum temperature for use is 13°C. Observe: Tropical wood species such as Teak, Ipe, Smoked Oak, Wenge and similar species as well as some softwoods, contain natural ingredients – tannins, oils, resins and minerals, which can lead to significant lengthening of the drying time, wetting issues or colour changes. It is strongly recommended that the timber species is identified, and a trial application carried out to assess the colour and general appearance of the system.
