    Information

The Nordic look & feel is all about natural, timeless wood with a light, soft appearance. Over time, the surface gently develops a soft silver-grey tone when exposed to sun and weather, giving your deck a serene, natural look that blends beautifully with outdoor surroundings. Bring this look to life with Bona Wood Deck Linseed Soap — ideal for protecting and maintaining wooden decks and other outdoor wood surfaces. For heavily weathered or algae-covered wood, use Bona Wood Deck Deep Cleaner as step one to restore the surface. As step two, apply Bona Wood Deck Linseed Soap with a brush, mop, or pad to a dry surface. We recommend testing on a small, inconspicuous area prior to use to ensure the desired result. It can also be used for light cleaning: add 100 ml of linseed soap to wash water and clean periodically to maintain the wood’s protection and appearance. Bona. Chosen by Experts. Frequently Asked Questions
How is linseed oil soap different from other types of soap?

Linseed oil soap cleans while also caring for the wood. Unlike many soaps that mainly clean the surface, linseed oil penetrates slightly into the wood, helping it stay nourished and flexible over time. This means the soap supports the wood instead of drying it out or stripping it, making it especially suitable for regular deck maintenance.

Is Bona Wood Deck Linseed Soap a cleaning product or a care product?

It can be used for both cleaning and care. Use a low concentration (2%) in lukewarm water for gentle cleaning, and a higher concentration (30-50%) in cold water when you want to care for and maintain the wood. Always follow the mixing instructions on the label.

Can I use Bona Wood Deck Linseed Soap for deep cleaning?

Yes, it can be used for mild deep cleaning on decks that are in relatively good condition. The soap helps loosen built-up dirt and weathered residue so it can be rinsed away easily. Once the deck has dried, apply the soap again to help care for the wood and support ongoing protection.

Can I use Bona Wood Deck Linseed Soap with other types of deep cleaners?

For best results, we recommend using Bona Wood Deck Deep Cleaner before applying Bona Wood Deck Linseed Soap. The two products are designed to work well together. Other deep cleaners—especially alkaline cleaners or those with strong cleaning agents—may reduce the soap’s caring effect and cause it to rinse away more easily.

Can I use Bona Wood Deck Linseed Soap on interior floors?

Yes. When properly diluted, Bona Wood Deck Linseed Soap can be used indoors as a cleaner for oiled wood floors and natural stone floors. Mix 100–200 ml of soap with 5 litres of water for cleaning. It can also be used to soap-treat softwood floors, following traditional Nordic care methods, similar to how the soap is used for maintaining wood decks.

My deck is very porous, can I use the soap undiluted?

Yes, for old or very porous wood, the first application can be done undiluted to help the wood absorb what it needs. Follow up with diluted applications, and let the surface dry completely between each treatment, before deciding if additional applications are needed.

Do I need to apply the soap several times?

In most cases, one application is sufficient. Very old or highly porous wood may benefit from an additional application. There’s no need to rush—allow the surface to dry between applications and give the soap time to settle. Over the next few days, the soap layer develops gradually. When the wood starts to repel water slightly, this indicates that the treatment is sufficient.

Can I use this product with a cleaning machine?

No, we don’t recommend using it with a cleaning machine, as the soap can create excessive foam. For best results, apply and work the product into the surface manually.

Can Bona Wood Deck Linseed Soap be used on all types of wood?

Bona Wood Deck Linseed Soap can be used on most types of wood. On some hardwoods, the surface may temporarily darken after application. This is a natural reaction and will fade over time, as sun and rain gradually give the wood a light, silver-grey appearance. To reduce darkening, use a lower concentration and apply the soap to pre-wetted wood.

Does the linseed soap have UV protection?

No, linseed soap does not provide UV protection. Over time, sunlight naturally causes untreated wood to turn a silver-grey colour. Bona Wood Deck Linseed Soap helps clean and care for the surface, keeping the wood nourished and flexible while helping to reduce moisture absorption. For best results, clean and treat the deck regularly as part of ongoing maintenance.
