Frequently Asked Questions
Can it be used on all types of wood decks?

Yes. However, we recommend testing the product on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure the desired result.

Can it be used on composite decks (WPC)?

Yes, it can be used on composite decks. As composite materials can vary, we recommend a short contact time (5-10 minutes), thorough rinsing with water, and avoiding excessive use. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure the desired result.

If Bona Wood Deck Deep Cleaner removes the greenish tint from pressure-treated timber, will it also remove the protection?

No, the greenish tint comes from copper-based preservatives near the surface. The cleaner removes the tint from the surface without affecting the underlying wood protection.

How should I apply Bona Wood Deck Deep Cleaner?

It can be applied using a brush, pad, or roller. Many users find it easiest to work from a tray to load the applicator evenly. It can also be applied with a low-pressure sprayer. This is a convenient and effective method, but be sure to protect nearby surfaces before spraying. Use a low-pressure sprayer with a long handle and apply close to the surface for better control. Avoid applying on windy days to prevent overspray.

My deck absorbs the cleaner quickly and the surface dries fast, using a lot of product. Is there a more efficient way to work?

Yes. This is common on very dry or weathered wood. For best results, work during cooler parts of the day, and avoid direct sunlight. Work in small sections and keep the surface wet while cleaning. If the area starts to dry, lightly rinse with water and continue scrubbing. Remove loosened dirt and debris while the surface is still wet before moving on.

Should I protect the surface after cleaning?

Once the deck is completely dry, you can treat it with a deck soap or oil. This helps protect the wood and and enhance its appearance.

Why aren’t stains, paints, or similar coatings recommended after cleaning with Bona Wood Deck Deep Cleaner?

This is an acidic cleaner, which can affect how certain stains, paints, and coatings perform on the surface. These products may not dry, level, or adhere as intended. Even with thorough rinsing, we do not recommend combining the cleaner with these types of coatings due to the risk of uneven results.

Does the product have any safety precautions?

Yes. As with most cleaning products, basic safety precautions should be followed. Avoid contact with eyes and skin, and wear protective gloves and eye protection during use. Keep out of reach of children. In case of eye contact, rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical advice if irritation persists. Always follow the instructions on the label before use.

Can I use this product with a cleaning machine?

Yes. For best results, apply the cleaner first and then use a cleaning machine for scrubbing. However, the cleaner can also be used directly with the Bona PowerScrubber. When using the Bona PowerScrubber, add 2 litres of Bona Wood Deck Deep Cleaner and top up the tank with 8 litres of water. Pre-rinse the area with water and scrub while distributing the solution evenly. After each use, always empty both the solution tank and the dirty water tank.

Is Bona Wood Deck Deep Clean the same as Bona Outdoor Wood Deck Reviver?

No, they are different products designed for different purposes. Bona Wood Deck Deep Cleaner is acidic and ideal for deep cleaning before applying deck soap or oil. Bona Outdoor Wood Deck Reviver is alkaline and better suited for use before applying oils, stains, or lasures, and for helping to remove previous oil or stain treatments.

Can I dissolve old oil treatments with Bona Outdoor Wood Deck Reviver and then use Bona Wood Deck Deep Clean after?

Yes, this is possible. After using Bona Outdoor Wood Deck Reviver, make sure to rinse the deck thoroughly with water. Once the surface is clean and well rinsed, you can continue with Bona Wood Deck Deep Clean before treating the deck with soap or oil.
