Tile floor maintenance tips

Why should I polish my floor?
Using polish is more than just adding shine to your tile floors. You are also adding protection. Polishing floors helps restore a floor’s protective finish while filling in any microscopic scratches. It's a simple project that can be done by most people - without any special equipment. Learning how to polish tile floors is a relatively quick, cheap and easy way to extend the life and look of your hard-surface flooring.

How often should I clean and polish my floor?
While a daily cleaning routine (dusting, dry-mopping, spot cleaning) is essential protection for any floor, polishing tile floors can be done every 1-4 months, depending on the amount of foot traffic.

Can it be used on other hard-surface floors?

No matter what kind of hard-surface floor you have, Stone, Tile & Laminate Polish has you covered. It is formulated for a wide range for surfaces like laminate flooring, vinyl linoleum, unglazed tile (ceramic, quarry), stone and sealed marble.

Prep and test

  • Measure your floor to ensure that you have enough polish. Bona Floor Polishes cover anywhere from 350-550 sq. ft. depending on the size of the bottle.
  • Clear furniture out of the way so you can easily polish the entire space.
  • Dust floors by vacuuming or dry mopping with a Bona Microfiber Dusting Pad to make sure all loose dirt and grit are off the floor.
  • Clean floors with a Bona Premium Spray Mop for Hard-Surface Floors to get any leftover dirt and debris off the floor so you don't contaminate the polish.
  • Clean grout with a brush and cleaner (a paste of baking soda and water works as well)
  • Do a small test area in an inconspicuous spot before applying Bona Polish.
