How to nourish and refresh oiled wood floors

By refreshing your oiled wood floor regularly, you prolong its life. This is how you do it.

What does a refresher do?

Oiled wood floors require a periodic recoating of new oil to ensure that the wood pores are saturated and will reject substances and liquids that the floor is exposed to. The all-new Bona Oiled Wood Floor Refresher both nourishes the existing surface and restores the floor’s colour depth, while establishing a protective layer that simplifies future cleaning.

Is my floor treated with oil?

You can easily test this with a bead of water. Does the wood darken as the water is absorbed by the wood? Does it leave a white stain when it’s dry? If that is the case your floor is oiled, but if the surface is unaffected by the water, then it’s most likely lacquered or treated with wax. For maintenance and cleaning of such floors, Bona offers a wide range of products – check them out at bona.com

How does it work?

The Bona Oiled Wood Floor Refresher has three main functions and benefits. Firstly, the added oil component re-saturates the floor in areas that have dried up due to wear or frequent cleaning. Secondly, after application and drying, the refresher forms a thin caring layer that simplifies cleaning and protects the floor from water stains and spills. And thirdly, it restores your wood floor’s feel and lustre.

How do I get the job done?

First, you should dust off the floor and clean it if necessary. Then begin by checking your floor for any particularly dry spots. Dampen a cleaning pad with Bona Oiled Wood Floor Refresher and gently rub it in on these spots. Pour the refresher in a wide wavy line on a section of the floor and distribute it with a Bona Cleaning Pad. Keep working in sections until the whole floor has been treated. Apply in the direction of the wood or, where this is not possible, in the direction towards the windows. No buffing or machines are needed. Let the refresher dry and after just 1-2 hours the floor is ready to walk on.

How often should I refresh my wood floor?

It is recommended to repeat the refresh process when your floor, or parts of your floor, starts to look dull from the daily wear. By keeping the floor well maintained over time, you extend the life of your floors while keeping the floors looking beautiful.
