Sustainability
Even with enhanced recycling efforts, replacing a floor means landfills receive the majority of non-biodegradable flooring material. With new government regulations to reduce our carbon footprint along with individual organizations’ commitment to CSR goals, helping your facility reduce its environmental impact is one of your top priorities and Bona can help.

Floor renewal is a better option and is being adopted by facilities that prefer an eco-friendly solution.
Floor renewal can help contribute to your facility's environmental goals by reducing CO2 and energy savings by up to 90%. The results of a study conducted by the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute show immense savings of energy and reduced carbon footprint when comparing renewal versus replacing floors.
Benefits of floor renewal
• Significant downtime savings
• Substantial cost savings
• Considerable carbon footprint reduction
• Limitless design customization
• Improved durability attributes
• Enhanced hygiene properties

90% CO2 savings
A refinished resilient floor has an impact on climate change of 1.14 kg carbon dioxide equivalents per m2. Compared to a newly installed floor that uses an average of 11.42, this produces a carbon footprint that is more than ten times lower for a refinished floor. The assessment included all products used, electricity, consumables, waste treatment and transport.

90% energy savings
The results show the use of energy resources can be significantly reduced. Since refinishing allows continued use of already available flooring materials. With a refinish the total use of primary energy resources is 5.56 kWh / m2. This takes into consideration the production of raw materials and resources and trips made by the craftsman. Compared to installation of a new floor, where the energy use is a total of 55.56 kWh / m2, the savings are 90%.

Floor renewal saves up to 90% in reduced carbon footprint
By renewing a resilient floor in an average size classroom versus installing a new one results in the equivalent CO2 reduction of one passenger car on the road each day. Imagine the possibilities!

Utilize a water-saving alternative
By opting for the Bona Resilient Solution, facility managers not only contribute to reducing water usage - saving up to 2 liters of water per square meter of flooring,* but also align with global efforts towards sustainable water management, making it a responsible choice for both the environment and their facilities

Case study: Retail floor renewal

Finnish developers of Arkaden were in the process of converting an old bank building into an indoor shopping center in Raseborg, Finland. The vision for this beautifully designed gathering place was to renovate the existing building structures, including the floors, to create a welcoming environment for shoppers. Arkaden wanted an easy, quick and sustainable alternative to replace the floor in the bank building — a worn-down, old plastic mat with large holes, scratches, cracks, and bare or mismatched patches. The Bona Resilient Solution renewed the floor adding a layer of durability along with a fresh modern look thus extending the life of the floor while reducing it’s carbon footprint.
