TRBA 250 Test with Bona Pure
We commissioned a study to prove how using the Bona Commercial System can help floor owners keep the surface of their resilient floors scrupulously clean.
The test was carried out in conjunction with the IFR Institute in Germany. Its purpose was to prove that a smooth, joint-free LVT surface can be created by overcoating using Bona Pure according to the regulations of TRBA 250.
Bona Commercial System
Bona Commercial System combines a focus on optimal care with modern solutions, uniquely developed for wood and resilient floors.
Clean surfaces are vital in premises like hospitals and day-care centres where a high level of hygiene is essential. That is why easy-to-clean vinyl floors often are used to minimize the risk of germs gaining a foothold. However, bacteria and microorganisms can still hide in joints and scratches.
Critical areas for unprotected floors
Every day a significant amount of dirt and microorganisms accumulates in the scratches and joints of flooring surfaces. Creating a homogenous surface on flooring, such as LVT, stops the build up of dirt and contamination and makes the floor easier to clean. A Bona Deep Clean treatment following by a layer of Bona Pure creates a smooth homogenous surface which provides long term protection and helps keep the floor clean by preventing the build up of dirt and contamination.

Systematic test with IFR Institute

Test floor
The first step of the test was to install a range of new LVT wood effect flooring.

Test floor setup
The next step involved dividing the test area into two sections and coating one with Bona Pure, while the other was left untreated.

Test method
A solution containing flourescent pigments was then applied daily across the whole floor and cleaned using the Bona PowerScrubber and Bona Deep Clean Solution.

Test period
Daily contamination with the pigments followed by cleaning was carried out over a period of 8 weeks. At the end of the test period, UV lights were used to expose the levels of contamination on each part of the floor.
A healthier floor surface
The part of the floor not treated with Bona Pure showed high levels of contamination. The part treated with Bona Pure showed hardly any. To prove the test results further, the LVT planks were removed to examine for signs of contamination below the surface. On the untreated area, a high level of contamination was found below the planks due to penetration through the joints. However, the area treated with Bona Pure showed almost no signs of contamination thanks to its protective layer which seals each joint.

Bona Pure meets TRBA 250
By applying a coat of Bona Pure over the LVT floor, Bona fulfilled the demands specified by the TRBA 250 regulations.
Bona Pure is specially developed to meet all TRBA 250 requirements (45 μm layer thickness per order). Slip resistance according to DIN 51130 (R9) can easily be achieved with Bona Pure, while sealing with Bona Pure ensures dirt and microorganisms do not stick to or penetrate the floor covering.
