Bona Primers

A Bona primer has many advantages when creating a great surface. Not all contractors use primers, it’s a fact. However, let’s look into the reasons behind the ones who choose to apply a primer before the topcoat and why they are successful doing that.

Secure adhesion with freedom of style

High application safety

Unlike a topcoat, a primer is optimised for an absorbent surface and ensures a high application safety on bare wood for an even wood colouration. A primer is also forgiving against small differences in application rate between different areas.

Improved adhesion

With a primer, a strong adhesion to wood is established, securing a long, durable life.

Sidebonding-602x250.jpg

Reduce side-bonding

A Bona primer is formulated to follow the movement of the wood which happens due to variations in air humidity and the risk of sidebonding is greatly reduced.

Since the primer is the first product the wood meets it will decide the colour, which can be varied to ones personal liking.

Create design options

Primers have a known effect on wood colouration. You can design the floor impression by using a primer that provides a certain tone to the floor. It’s a well-known fact that the majority of floor owners prefer a floor which is either neutral or just slightly coloured. For example, Bona Traffic HD Raw together with Bona White for a light, Nordic look.

Primers as a part of a system

Every wood floor protection starts with a primer. Once the floor is sanded properly, the phase of preparing the floor for a final topcoat starts. To deliver great results, the primers need to be carefully developed. High level of performance on features like abradability, flow, levelling, defoaming and matting is an absolute must. To secure the adhesion, all primers must be optimized, matching all topcoats that go together.
