Only cat people know how amazing cats truly are. Help give your cats the best possible care with pet safe floor cleaning solutions.

All cat owners know that they are secretly (or even not-so-secretly) better than dog owners. They typically smell better, for one thing. They also tend to be less needy and of a higher intellectual caliber. Cats love attention, are deeply affectionate –– and can even be protective. But they also like their space, and their spots, such as a nice sunny spot on the floor by their favorite window.

All that said, cats are not without their issues. They make messes; for example:

  • They love to eat grass and subsequently throw it up (it helps them with digestion).
  • Oh, and the furballs. When they clean themselves they get hair in their throats, and then down into their insides. Hence, they throw up furballs.
  • They chew on things in the house; such as plants, cell phone cables, yoga mats, a favorite hat. You name it, they’ll chew it (especially when they’re little).
  • They scratch and claw everything from furniture to cabinets, and from carpets to hardwood floors.
  • Some cats do make the occasional potty mess. Male cats (particularly the unneutered ones) and even some female cats have been known to spray.

So, what to do?

For dealing with the messes, thankfully, there is Bona® Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner for Cats and the Bona® Microfiber Pet Mop. Bona’s enzymatic floor cleaner is probiotic-based which produces enzymes at the presence of a food source. While the Odor Guard Technology eliminates odors upon contact preventing the urge for re-marking the same territory.

What about cat hair?

Vacuum cleaners and brooms will blow cat hair and dander around the room and throughout the air, but the Microfiber Pet Mop is designed to attract the hair to the mop pad, so the hair and dust can then be easily disposed of. For that added, extra fine touch, you will want to polish your wood floors from time to time.

While it’s highly unlikely that you will be able to teach your cat not to claw or scratch things, as it is in their nature, there are ways to mitigate the matter.

Some cat owners will get their cats declawed. Others will not, as they feel the cat should have a means by which to defend herself if she happens to go outside. Makes sense. These people will usually have scratching posts or boards for their cats, and cats can be redirected to appropriate scratching surfaces. Additionally, their nails can be trimmed, and doing so will make them less likely to scratch things.[LB1]

For cat lovers who also love their wood floors, there are options. If you have an older home, you may simply choose to keep the wood floors that came with the house, but if you’re planning on getting new wood floors, the harder, the better. The hardest of hardwood floors are:

  • Hard Maple
  • Hickory
  • White Oak

The above wood floors are much more scratch-resistant than softwoods. Other flooring options that are great for cat owners are vinyl tile (LVT) or vinyl plank. Not only do they look great, but they are made of special materials that are very durable and resistant to scratching and staining. Linoleum flooring is another excellent option for cats.

For cat scratches that appear on your floors, there is Bona® Floor Polish.

Bona® Floor Polish will help you hide scratches and bring back the lustrous shine you love.
