Easy Summer Cleaning Checklist

You may be ready for summer, but is your home? Keep things clean and beautiful all summer long with helpful summer cleaning tips.

Summer is in full swing, so homeowners should be mindful of certain matters that could affect their overall enjoyment levels. Make sure the following items have been addressed, so you can kick back and relax.

Summer mindfulness

  • Moisture and heat. Summer moisture and heat can cause mold and mildew. Be sure bathrooms are well-ventilated and don’t let wet clothing linger in the washer.

  • Air quality. Outdoor activities increase the chances of bringing in allergens like grass, dust and pollen. Make sure your HVAC system is ready for the season.

  • Foot traffic. Naturally, it increases in the summer with houseguests and extra kids. To cut back on dirt, debris and grime, set up a shoes-off policy and use both outside and inside doormats.

  • Pests. Attend to spills quickly on countertops and floors so they don’t attract bugs. Make sure food waste is disposed of properly to avoid scavengers interested in your trash cans.

Summer cleaning made breezy

Summer is the time for family trips, barbecue picnics and swimming at the beach. Yet with all the fun to be had, there is still work to be done, and that includes a fair amount of cleaning.

Better organization means more time for summer fun. We’ve put together a handy checklist broken down into daily, weekly and monthly tasks, to help you get started.

✔️ AC, vents and fans. Check filters, clear vents and dust fans to make sure your home is properly ventilated to keep things cool and comfortable. Change the direction of ceiling fan movement to counterclockwise to push down cool air.

✔️ Floors. Reduce allergens, dirt and debris in your home with a regular floor care routine. Remember to dust/dry mop to avoid scratching your floor’s finish and use a microfiber mop and residue-free cleaning solution formulated for your floor’s surface.

✔️ Bathrooms. Bathroom fans should be used and cleaned regularly to prevent mildew. The fan should be turned on whenever the bathroom is being used, and should be cleaned at least twice throughout the summer.

✔️ Closets and pantry. Store/donate clothes not being worn this season. Comb through your pantry to ensure all containers are secured, and expired food is discarded in order to keep pests away.

✔️ Kitchen. Cleaning kitchen countertops after cooking or eating is a must to avoid insects. Make sure kitchen trash bags/containers are emptied/maintained to avoid smells with the higher temperatures.

✔️ Windows. Take advantage of summer’s longer days and let the sunshine in. Clean windows both inside and out, using a squeegee to prevent streaks. Also, don’t forget to clean your screens.

✔️ Patio. Clean off outdoor furniture and keep a neat, clean patio grill area to prevent dust, pollen and messes from coming in. For barefoot folks, have a foot cleaning station near the door to help keep floors clean.
