The Bona Commercial System combines a focus on optimal floor care with state-of-the-art solutions that have been developed uniquely for wood and resilient floors.
Hygienic surfaces are vital, especially in premises like hospitals and day-care centres. This is why easy-to-clean vinyl floors are often installed in these environments to minimise the risk of germs gaining a foothold. However, bacteria and micro-organisms can still hide in joints, scratches and other hard-to-reach areas.
Critical areas for unprotected floors
Every day a significant amount of dirt and micro-organisms accumulate in the scratches and joints of flooring surfaces. Sealing these imperfections and joints will eliminate the build up of dirt and contamination and make daily cleaning easier and more effective. A Bona Deep Clean treatment, followed by a layer of Bona Pure, provides long-term surface protection as well as enhancing the efficiency of ongoing daily cleaning on new and existing floors - particularly in heavily trafficked areas.
Systematic test with IFR Institute
We commissioned a study on the use of the Bona Commercial System on vinyl flooring typically used in hygiene sensitive areas. The test was carried out in conjunction with the IFR Institute in Germany. The purpose of the test was to prove that a smooth, joint-free LVT surface can be created by overcoating using Bona Pure according to the regulations of TRBA 250.
The first step of the test was to install a range of new LVT wood effect flooring.
Test floor setup
The next step involved dividing the test area into two sections and coating one with Bona Pure, while the other was left untreated.
A solution containing flourescent pigments was then applied daily across the whole floor and cleaned using the Bona PowerScrubber and Bona Deep Clean Solution.
Daily contamination with the pigments followed by cleaning was carried out over a period of 8 weeks. At the end of the test period, UV lights were used to expose the levels of contamination on each part of the floor.
Healthier floor surface
The part of the floor not treated with Bona Pure showed high levels of contamination. The part treated with Bona Pure showed hardly any. To prove the test results further, the LVT planks were removed to examine for signs of contamination below the surface. On the untreated area, a high level of contamination was found below the planks due to penetration through the joints. However, the area treated with Bona Pure showed almost no signs of contamination thanks to its protective layer which seals each joint.
Floor illuminated using UV lights to examine contamination
By applying a coat of Bona Pure over the LVT floor, Bona met the criteria defined in the TRBA 250 regulations. Its sealing power created a barrier against residual germs and micro-organisms, making it easier to keep the floor scrupulously clean.
Bona Pure meets TRBA 250
Bona Pure is specially developed to meet all the requirements of TRBA 250 (45 μm layer thickness per coat). Slip resistance that meets DIN 51130 (R9) is also easily achieved with Bona Pure, as well as its ability to stop dirt and micro-organisms sticking to or penetrating the surface.
