Zero VOC Adhesives

Avoid unsightly glue lines on your darker species flooring projects by tinting your adhesive! Bona's family of adhesives (R848, R851, and R859) can all be tinted to better match your flooring color. While squeeze out is often inevitable, seeing on the floor it doesn't have to be. Bona adhesives can be tinted with Mixol dyes to darken up that light beige adhesive to better match your floor. Mixol #23, Medium brown, provides a great match for most exotic species and darker prefinished floors, but any color will work! Need more info? Contact technical support at 1-800-872-5515.

Case Study - Mansion in May

Throughout May 2017, thousands of people crowded outside the gates of a New England mansion, anxiously waiting to explore its wonderful gardens and uniquely designed rooms. Once inside the grounds, they wandered across rows of blooming flowers and stepped through the doors of the newly-renovated, 100-year-old house. Though each room they entered showcased a different artistic aesthetic, many of these spaces had beautiful wood floors. Each restored plank the visitors walked on accentuated both the elegance of the mansion itself as well as the beauty within each room.

To raise funds for their local hospital, the Women’s Association for the Morristown Medical Center (WAMMC) in New Jersey chooses a historic mansion in the area every few years for their “Mansion in May Designer Showhouse & Gardens”. During this event, 20-30 interior and landscape designers transform an estate into an inspirational showroom, and each team is given one area of the house/gardens to demonstrate their talents. This year, the WAMMC decided on Alnwick Hall (a.k.a. “The Abby”) for their Mansion in May. Originally owned by lawyer and businessman, Edward Meany and his wife, Rosalie, this building was constructed in 1904. Its architect, Percy Griffin incorporated stain glass windows, terra cotta ornaments, and an oak staircase into the house’s make-up—features inspired by Alnwick Castle in the UK.

About 35,000 people explored The Abby’s century-old halls this May, and Bona US had the unique opportunity of becoming a part of this special event. Though many aspects of the house aged gracefully, some elements, including portions of the wood floors, needed renovation. Bona was the exclusive Mansion in May hardwood floor renovation and maintenance sponsor. Our products were used in all rooms with wood flooring to rejuvenate each board. These spaces included the Left Bank Loft—decorated by the Curren Design Associates and Plumbery Designs team—which won the visitor’s choice Tulip Award for the favorite interior design.

Before the mansion was renovated, the aging floor had lost some of its vibrancy and strength. Luckily, our Bona Certified Craftsman, Erik Luthy from Exceptional Flooring Concepts in Cedar Knolls, New Jersey was on hand to make sure the wood was compatible with the house’s modern upgrades. Some boards could not be salvaged, but, overall, Luthy and his team restored the floors to their former beauty. Bona Traffic HD was applied to improve the floors durability and beauty. This product, which has outperformed all other urethane finishes in tests for durability, also has low VOCs and is GREENGUARD certified.  Bona’s Provincial Stain—which is part of the Bona DriFast Stain Essentials collection—was also used to seal and protect the planks. Because this oil modified stain dries quickly, does not bleed, and does not have a strong odor, it was perfect for rooms which saw high volumes of visitors. Its warm brown shade also complemented the textures and colors of the various elements in each space. With Bona Traffic HD and Bona Provincial DriFast Stain, the boards could both withstand heavy foot traffic and display an inviting, classic  finish.

Upon returning to the property after improvements were made, Bona Territory Manager, Jeff Offredo was amazed at how drastically Alnwick Hall had changed since his first visit, saying the contrast was “like night and day”. Offredo considers the overall quality of the floors to be significantly improved. He was also impressed by the ingenuity and creativity the designers used in each space and believes these elements will increase the house’s resale value when it goes on the market.

As May came to an end, the WAMMC concluded another successful Mansion in May season. Since 1974, this event has raised over $10 million for various organizations within the Morristown Medical Center--this year supporting the Benefits Center for Nursing Innovation and Research. Patrons who visited any of the 18 properties throughout the decades not only helped improve medical research in the community, but they also enabled designers, landscapers, and sponsors to showcase their services/products while bringing historical houses back to life. This fundraiser was a wonderful opportunity for Bona to demonstrate how our stains and finishes can restore aging hardwood. The result was a house full of beautiful floors that inspired people to imagine the gorgeous potential in their own hardwood flooring.

Solutions for Every Hardwood Floor Problem

“I continue to find more and more uses of my Bona PowerScrubber.  This time around the client had a prefinished oak product installed that was stained ebony.  After construction in all the rooms, the floors were basically destroyed – construction dust and scratches all over as you can imagine.  Their crews tried to clean up the mess, but could not remove the dust from the joints.  We completed two rooms to show the effectiveness of the process.  Needless to say, they were very impressed.  After the Deep Clean and a few stain touch ups, we went back the following day and coat with Bona Deep Clean Polish.  It looks really good and is a lot less cost than a recoat.  The customer had been offered no other options but a refinish and had to reopen the hotel asap.  We were able to offer a faster, more economical solution.  Thanks for coming up with these cool products and continued education!  I would not have had this work without the Bona PowerScrubber.” Chris Makarius - Owner, Atlantic to Pacific Flooring, Inc

Revive the natural glow of your customer’s floors with a quick beautification system.  Bona’s innovative deep cleaning system is the safest, quickest and easiest way to remove all the dirt, grime and build-up on hardwood floors.
