The Swedish Embassy in Washington, D.C. chose Swedish suppliers

The Embassy commission included more than 4,000 square meters (some 45,000 square feet) of floor boarding made from American maple. The Swedish architect, Gert Wingårdh wanted some connection to the northern parallels with their scarlet dawns and sunsets. The light maple wood is typically Northern in appearance and after oiling and lacquering gains a beautiful luster.

The floor was first polished, and then sealed with a maple colored filler developed especially for this project. Next came coloring with Bona Parquet Décor Natural. Varnishing was performed using first Bona Prime Intense, then with two coatings of Bona Traffic IP.
